Liposuction is a medical surgery which helps a person to look slim and reshape specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits. This also helps in improving body contours.

Liposuction can be opted if a person fails to lose weight from diet and exercise. The unsightly distribution of body fat is usually due to an inborn tendency to deposit fat in one area of the body, most commonly the hips. Other areas include; the neck, arms, tummy, loins, thighs, inner side of the knees and the ankles.

When an individual gains weight, the fat cells also increases in size and volume. Liposuction helps in reducing the number of fat cells.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy liposuction are the common procedure treated among both men and women. Some of the important factors that affect the results of tummy lipo include: age of the patient, weight gain, location of abdominal fat. Tummy liposuction helps to remove unwanted deposits of fat from specific areas of the abdomen which do not respond to diet or exercise.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes horizontal incision in the area between the pubic hairline and belly button. The procedure is performed using a narrow hollow metal rod known as cannula attached to a vacuum pump, it is then inserted into the skin through the incision and moves back and forth between the fatty area. Resulting in flat and slim abdominal contour. The results can be seen within a week or two.

The procedure is associated with minimum risks like: anesthesia risks, infection, bleeding, numbness, chances of revision surgery.

Arms and Thighs

There are many individuals who are unhappy with the way their arms and thighs look. Arm and thigh liposuction surgery aims to improve the contour of arms and thigh by removing excess skin and fat resulting into tight and smooth skin.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes small incisions that are hard to see, in areas that are going to be treated. Then the liposuction tool is inserted and the excess fat is removed from the arms or thighs and results into smooth and tight skin. The surgery takes around 2-3 hours. The results can be immediately seen however; it might take few months for the final results. If the patient maintains proper weight and diet, the results might be long lasting. There are no major risks involved, the minor risks are anesthesia risks, infection, bleeding, numbness, chances of revision surgery.

In order to properly treat the entire central abdomen, Dr. Audumbar addresses all four quadrants of the abdomen. In this way, the treatment is consistent through the entire stomach. When only one area of the abdomen is treated, the untreated area may bulge over time, leading to an uneven and disproportionate appearance. Because Dr. Audumbar treats the entire abdomen as a single unit, it leads to long-lasting tightened contours.

In treating the central abdomen, there are several aspects the doctor keeps in mind.

  • Approaching the abdomen from multiple angles, preventing treatment irregularities and a donut of fat around the belly button.

  • Identifying when patients have poor skin elasticity, allowing him to be conservative in his approach without leaving an empty skin envelope after treatment.

  • Applying the cannula parallel to the skin surface, preventing dimpling or unnecessary damage to surrounding tissues.

Ideal Candidate

  • Men who have enlarged breasts and cannot be treated with other alternative.

  • The patient should be healthy.

  • The patient should be a non-smoker.

  • Men who have realistic expectations.

  • Boosts confidence and self esteem.

  • Gets a manly physique.

  • Eases physical activity.

  • Improves posture.

  • Makes a man feel better and happy .

How it is done?

The breast is made up of two main components, glandular tissue (firm and dense) and fatty tissue (soft). The ratio of glandular to fatty tissue in any breast varies from individual to individual and in Gynaecomastia there may be an excess of both. The procedure starts with giving a local or general anesthesia to the patient after a small incisions are made on either at the edge of areola or from the armpit. A thin tube instrument is inserted to remove the excess fat from the chest. After the fat is removed the incisions are closed and dressing is done.

If there is predominantly a diffuse fatty enlargement of the breast, liposuction is the usual treatment. This involves sucking out the tissue through a small tube inserted via a 3-4mm incision. If excess glandular tissue is the primary cause of breast enlargement, it may need to be excised (cut out) with a scalpel. This will leave a scar, usually around the nipple edge. This excision can be performed alone or in conjunction with liposuction.

Following the surgery the chest is swollen and bruised for a while and it can be difficult to assess the full effect of the operation. To help reduce swelling, patients are often instructed to wear an elastic pressure garment continuously for one or two weeks. It is advisable to refrain from exercise for about three weeks and, in general, it takes about six weeks before one can return to completely normal activities.

The potential complications of the surgery are relatively rare. They include inadequate removal of breast tissue, an uneven contour to the chest and reduced nipple sensation. If an excision has been performed, rather than liposuction, then a blood clot can form that may need to be drained at a second operation.

The results can be immediately seen. However, the swelling will subside over a period and the incisions will also fade away. The results will be seen over next few months.

After the surgery, the incisions will be covered with the bandages and dressings. The patient must wear a support garment to support the chest contour. A tube will be placed under the skin to drain out excess blood and fluid. The patient can go home after few hours of surgery. Special instruction will be given by the doctor as how to take care of operated area, medicines to apply or take orally to help healing and reduce the risk of infection.

Buttocks liposuction helps improving shape and size, resulting in perfect and smooth results as it reduces the volume of the buttocks substantially and bring them into proportion.

The main aim of buttock liposuction is to give the buttocks a natural, rounded curve. Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is most common type of butt augmentation.

The surgeon makes incisions from various areas. A silicone implant that is specially designed for the buttocks is inserted in the muscle to remove the excess fat and then the incisions are closed.

The results are immediately seen. Further improvement can be seen in next 3 months.

The procedure is associated with minimum risks like: anesthesia risks, infection, bleeding, numbness, chances of revision surgery.

Liposuction Procedure

About the Procedure

A narrow metal tube is inserted through a small incision in the nearby skin. It is attached to a strong vacuum pump which is drawn back and forth within the area of excess fat. The process removes tunnels of fat leaving the small blood vessels and nerves intact. The skin will then retract.

There are some minor variants in the techniques. Some surgeons inject the area to be treated with solutions (wet or tumescent technique) others do not. Suction is usually applied with a powerful vacuum machine, but it is some-times perfectly adequate to use a simple syringe for small areas. Ultrasound assisted lipectomy is another variant.

Ideal candidate for liposuction

An ideal candidate is the one who has excessive subcutaneous fat, which is resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a weight reduction procedure! It is a procedure that helps reshape & improve body contour.

Benefits of Liposuction

  • Safe removal of fat.

  • Reduction of cellulite or improvement in the appearance of cellulite.

  • Improved health, usually associated with fat loss.

  • Changes the way you look, and the way others perceive you.

  • Boost in self-esteem.

  • Sculpting areas of body that even exercise and diet don’t seem to impact.

Liposuction Techniques

There are various techniques used for liposuction. It is safe, easy and less painful to have liposuction:

  • Tumescent Liposuction: In tumescent liposuction, local anesthesia is given to large volumes of subcutaneous fat to numb the area of the body. The fat is then sucked out through the small suction tubes also known as microcannulas. Now this has become the most popular form of liposuction. Tumescent liposuction does not require general anesthesia.

  • Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction: This is also known as ultrasonic liposuction. In this technique ultrasound are used to liquefy the fat, this makes easy to remove the stubborn fat. This method is good choice to treat fibrous areas like fat from neck, upper abdomen, sides and back, male breasts.

  • Laser-Assisted Liposuction: In this technique a microcannula is inserted through a small incision to deliver low energy waves and heat into subcutaneous fat and liquefy it, which is then removed through a small cannula. This procedure is less invasive and bloody procedure as compared to others. After the surgery, the incisions are left open to drain out the excess fluid and blood from the body.

  • Vaser Liposuction: Vaser liposuction are also called as lip selection. Vaser ultrasonic liposuction is a technique in which fat deposits are removed from beneath the skin to improve the aesthetics of a particular body part. This technique makes the fat easier to remove. It is especially useful in areas with larger volumes or denser fat.

  • Smart Lipo: Smart lipo liquefy fat and removed through a thin tube. Smart Lipo a less aggressive procedure that may have a faster recovery timeline. The cannuala might not be used for the thin layers of fat like on the face and neck. The procedure does not intend to significantly reduce weight but to remove stubborn fat
